ROFFA member/former Deputy Fire Chief Garry Clarke passed away suddenly

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce his passing, on January 21st, 2023, in his 85th year. He was the deeply loved and dearly devoted husband of Joan (nee Sawchuk). Proud father of Karen Thompson (David) and Catherine Clarke. Beloved Papa to Trevor Thompson (Stephanie), Robert Paquin (Stephanie), Chelsea Cipkar (Christopher) and Kayla Thompson.

Waiting for him in heaven are his parents Charles and Mary Clarke and his nine siblings. He will be missed by in-laws Russel Sawchuk (Laura), Dorothy Sawchuk and Sandra Clarke. He was a caring uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Garry touched so many lives with his kind smile and caring ways, through his forty years of service with the Ottawa Fire Department and through his volunteer hours with the Bytown Fire Brigade in the refurbishment of antique fire vehicles.

With their daughters, Garry and Joan traveled across Canada and the United States. In retirement, they enjoyed their trips and cruises to many exotic locations and countries.

Garry had many interests and could often be found curling, square dancing, reading, doing his puzzles, playing board and card games.

Visitation will be from 10:00 to 12:00 a.m. on Friday January 27th, 2023 at Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 in the chapel, followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honour to The Bytown Fire Brigade or to the charity of your choice. https://www.bytownfire.ca/how-to-support-bytown-fire-brigade
