ROFFA member/former OFD Captain Peter Raymond passed away

He was the father of ROFFA member Bruce Raymond.

RAYMOND, Peter George Surrounded by his loving family, Peter George Raymond passed away on September 15th at the age of 90. With his Korean Veterans ball cap and sunglasses on, Peter spent his final moments in the sunny courtyard of Perley Health listening to country and Irish music with his wife and children. Born in Ottawa on October 26th, 1931, Peter was the beloved son of the late George Albert Raymond and Mary Miller. Loving husband of Eileen for 67 years since December 11, 1954. Devoted father of Stephen (late Pauline), Bruce (Ann), Deborah, and Laurie (Ian). Peter is survived by his sister Joan and brothers Richard (Ilona) and James (Charlene). He is cherished by his nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His family relished in his dry sense of humour, classic one-liners, and their favourite activity: searching for his keys and sunglasses. Peter served in the Royal Canadian Navy and sailed around the world. He crossed the equator several times and frequented his fair share of international drinking establishments. He was a Veteran of the Korean War. Later, after 35 years, he retired from the Ottawa Fire Department at the hard-earned rank of Captain. Peter enjoyed his golden retirement years in sunny Tarpon Springs, Florida with Eileen. Peter’s dedication to sports and fitness was an inspiration to all who knew him. While hockey, running, biking, cross-country skiing, skating, and weight training were regular activities, he is best known for his devotion to kayaking, sailing, and softball. Friends remember him paddling in his green kayak from the Rideau Canoe Club, hitting practice balls off a tee at local diamonds, and sailing in the Thousand Islands and on the Ottawa River from the Nepean Sailing Club. His pursuit for improvement never ceased. As a lifelong learner, he constantly sought to strengthen his stroke, sweeten his swing, and sail a tighter tack.

Family and Friends may gather at the Capital Funeral Home & Cemetery, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa, 613-692-1211 on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 to celebrate Peter’s life from 12 noon to 3 p.m. Condolences and Sharing Memories at www.capitalmemorial.ca . In the words of Hank Snow and one of Peter’s favourite songs “I’ve been everywhere, man!” KEEP SMILING!
