It is with broken hearts we share that Samantha Alice Sanders (née Lie), age 58, of Ottawa, Ontario, passed away tragically on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Born on May 15, 1967,

Samantha lived a rich and vibrant life. With unmatched energy, kindness, and creativity, Samantha touched the lives of everyone she met. She was a force of nature—fiercely protective of those she loved, highly successful in everything she set her mind to,and she made her presence known when she walked into a room. With her enthusiasm, tenacity, and talent as a dancer, it’s no surprise that she was also a CFL Ottawa Rough Riders cheerleader in the 80s.

Intelligent, thoughtful, outgoing, hilarious, beautiful, strong, warm, silly, and generous are just some of the words that only begin to describe how vibrant and fun Samantha was. Samantha basked in winters spent in Florida, being by the ocean, jetskiing, snorkelling or scuba diving, collecting shells, or simply enjoying the sunset with her husband. Travelling with her loved ones was something she held dear to her heart; in May, she enjoyed a month-long mother-daughter trip to Europe – eating croissants in Paris and drinking cappuccinos on the Amalfi Coast.

Sam was a talented artist who enjoyed painting, working with resin art, cooking and baking, and yoga. Professionally, she was a gifted entrepreneur. Sam had a successful award-winning career in banking, owned 98 doors in real-estate, was a proud five-star Airbnb host, and was an expert problem-solver and guru with money. She believed in eating dessert first, could always be found with a coffee in hand, always joked about going to the casino, was the first to jump into action when a friend was in need, and loved walking and cuddling with her precious dog Snowy. More than anything, Samantha was an incredible mother, who poured everything she had into her daughter, Victoria, and was so deeply loved and understood in return.

Samantha is survived by her loving parents, Henk and Lesley Lie; her devoted spouse, Christopher Sanders; her cherished daughter, Victoria Klassen (Robert); and her siblings, Tracy (Patrick) Rivard, Jonathan(Kristen) Lie, and Jason (Andrea) Lie and brother-in-laws Terry and Michael (Heather) Sanders. She will be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews: Brienne, Hannah, Jordan, Lily-Anne, Alexandra, Addison, Ryan, Jackson, as well as Travis, Troy, Andrew, Ryan, and Matthew. Into the after life she will be following her father-in-law, Patrick Sanders, her sisters-in-law, Debbie Sanders and Susan Sanders, and her beloved dog, Muffin.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Capital Funeral Home & Cemetery, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa,ON, on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Please come anytime to pay your respects, with a sharing of memories taking place from 2:00-2:30pm. As our radiant Samantha would have wanted, we encourage everyone to wear bright colours (think “Florida Formal”).

We invite family and friends to join us in remembering and celebrating her life by sharing memories and photos of Samantha with her family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Samantha’s memory to Camp Quality Eastern Ontario, an organization close to her daughter’s heart. Samantha will forever be loved, missed, and remembered.
