After a comprehensive nationwide search, I am pleased to advise that Paul Hutt is the successful candidate and the new permanent Chief of Ottawa Fire Services. Paul has been acting in this position on an interim basis since I became General Manager of Emergency and Protective Services.
Chief Hutt brings over 28 years of experience and a record of success in emergency management and fire service. He started his journey as a volunteer firefighter and served with distinction to eventually become a Sector Chief of Ottawa Fire Services. Then in 2011, he became the Director of Emergency Services and Fire Chief responsible for Fire Services, Emergency Management, and Bylaw Services with the Municipality of North Grenville. He returned to Ottawa Fire Services as Deputy Chief of Urban Operations and Special Operations in 2016 before becoming the acting Fire Chief.
Chief Hutt also brings an extensive list of credentials, including a Master Certificate in Municipal Leadership with York University, Schulich School of Business. He has a diploma in Fire Protection Technology from the Ontario Fire College and is a certified Municipal Manager from the Ontario Municipal Management Institute with the status of Fire Service Executive. This training and experience will ensure Ottawa Fire Services moves forward as a respected and innovative service for the residents of our city.

Chief Hutt has established positive relationships both within the service area but also among key stakeholders and the community at large, which will serve him well in this regard.
