Dunning- Stuart King

On the morning of his 80th birthday, April 20th, 2023, Stuart King Dunning passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer. Stu served 43 years with the Ottawa Fire Service, retiring in 2004 as Platoon Chief, Western Division, after 43 years of public service, as a First Responder.

Stu was predeceased by his high school sweetheart and wife of 50 years, Donna Gail Dunning (née Kruger) in 2016. He is survived by his two sons Jason (Angela) and Steven (Greg) and his many nieces and nephews. Donna and the boys were his greatest joy. Stu will also be missed by his neighbors, the Egan family and their four boys, as well as by the residents and staff at the Empress Kanata, to whom the family owe a great deal of gratitude for their care and compassion over the last 14 months.

Stu and Donna were well known among the boaters on the Rideau Canal system, having spent nearly 30 years travelling the Rideau Lakes and Thousand Islands each summer on their floating cottage, “Backdraft”. Stu’s booming voice, sense of humor, dancing skills, and outgoing personality will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Home on Thursday, April 27 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A service of remembrance will be held in the chapel on Friday, April 28 at 10:30 am by a reception for friends and family. Burial will take place at Pinecrest Cemetery.

Special thanks to palliative care for their support and help with Stu’s care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Tributes, donations, and condolences may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
