After a long and courageous battle with cancer, with his family by his side, we lost a loving husband of 52 years, and father at the age of 73. Son of the late Clifford and Isabelle Conroy and sister Margaret Sylvester, beloved husband of Thelma (nee Shay) and cherished father of Scott (Jennifer) and Brent (Jennifer). He will be greatly missed by his sister, Nancy White (Stephen Melville). Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Coltan, Everly and Daxton, as well as his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and his good friends.
John was with the Gloucester Fire Department for over 35 years and with the Ottawa Fire Department for the last years before his retirement. He also was an avid trucker and worked on his off time driving dump trucks, heavy equipment floats and tractor trailers for several different companies. He also owned his own dump truck for a few years, and did snow removal. In addition to that he also had his own regular truck for cleaning laneways. He was one hard working man for sure, and never complained.
He loved looking at old cars and going to car shows, the biggest and best one was at Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale, Arizona. Camping with his trailer was another of his favourite things to do and just plain shooting the breeze with the guys and telling stories.
He was truly one of a kind and will be sorely missed.
