DEATH NOTICE: ROFFA member/former Nepean Chief of Training Boyd Somerville passed away

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of John Boyd Somerville in his 84th year on May 13, 2026. Born on November 9th, 1941, and predeceased by his parents John Byron and Phylis Dorothy Somerville. Father to Jeff (Stella), Jason (Tanya), David, Annette (Luc Blondin) Arial. Beloved grandfather to Samantha (Brendan ) Fortune, Holly (Will), Kelly (Curtis), Tayla and Jacee, and Jordan (Lindsay) Gilmour. Great gramps to Jake and Luke Bergeron. He will be deeply missed by his sister Lynn (Gary) Concordia, and his niece Shannon, and Shawn Concordia.
Over his lifetime, he shared 25 years with Rose Marie Arial (predeceased) and later spent 12
cherished years with Kathy Mackay (predeceased).
Retired from the Ottawa/Nepean Fire Department where he had a decorated career. His passion for firefighting and teaching was evident as soon as he joined the fire department
and continued through his thirty plus years moving through the ranks to become Chief Training Officer.
Anyone who knew Boyd knew his love and passion for cars from an early age. He developed a deep passion and association for classic cars and was a member of numerous classic car groups within the region, as well helped run/facilitate the Aylmer Car Show for many years. He often spent every weekend and evenings attending shows with many of his cars and winning numerous shows with his prized Palm Spring Rose colored 1961 Ford Thunderbird.
Special thank you to all the wonderful staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital (Transitional Care Unit) and to Dr Gluszynski who treated him with the utmost of compassion and kindness.
Visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am with a Memorial Service to follow Friday, May 29, 2026. He will be laid to rest in his final resting place in a private ceremony, alongside his longtime partner Rose Arial at St Mary's Cemetery 5604 County Road 29, Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario Canada.
