Lascelles (Corkery), Mary Helena
December 10, 1934-October 4, 2025
Mary passed away peacefully on October 4th at the age of 90, surrounded by loving family. As her granddaughter Sarah said it was a quick Irish goodbye. She will be greatly missed by her children Brian (Elaine), Maureen, Tom (Gisele) and the late Daniele Lascelles, Paul (Jackleen). Cherished grandmother to Alyson (Matt), Sean; Emily (Todd), Thomas (aka Nemi) and Myles; Katherine (Adam), Genevieve (Zach), Daniel, and the late Patrick; Liam and Sarah and special grandmother to Dominic and Sophie.
Born December 10th, 1934, daughter of loving parents Theresa and Lynus Corkery, sister to the late Leo, Dorothy, Carmel, Sean, and Patrick. Former spouse and friend of the late Ronald Lascelles. Special friend to the late Meryl Bogart and dear friend to his daughter Janis Bogart. She will be deeply missed by nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbours.
Mary had the Corkery magic of truly being happy and good natured. She was courageous and had a rare joy. She helped others to see the good in life and always chose to see the best in others.
Mary loved her 30+ years working on parliament Hill, making lifetime friends, and enjoying lunches at the West Block. Her ever-present smile was infectious and drew people close.
As matriarch of our Hutton Avenue home, she was a second mother to many of our friends and neighbours. Generous and loving to all who knew her, Mary delighted in welcoming everyone for celebrations, parties and most especially on Christmas Eve.
She taught us that family and friends are what matter most.
Her passion for the piano began at a very young age. She completed Grade 10 from the Royal Conservatory of music and practiced daily. Classical music could always be heard in the background. Her favorite was Chopin's Nocturnes. In keeping with her Irish heritage, family music nights were frequently enjoyed.
Mom, you shall be missed more than you know. Your spirit will live on in all those you touched. Thank you for sharing your light and your music with us.
Generous to the end, and in keeping with her desire to be helpful, Mary donated her body for scientific advancement. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made the Heart and Stroke Foundation. We are deeply grateful to the staff at The Miller in Manotick for making Mom's last months comfortable and enjoyable.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday October 24th at 11 am at St Patrick's Parish Fallowfield (15 Steeple Hill Crescent, Nepean, ON) with reception to follow.
